This project started out a bit tricky for me, I was having trouble coming up with an idea until I eventually decided to stick with one of my favorite sports, disc golf. I did a whole lap around a private course in Boone called the Spine. Taking a picture if every spot the disc landed.

Afterwards in photoshop I turned each picture around inside the disc and put them on a overlay filter. It created a perfect image around the disc and outside the disc from the size of each picture sticking outside of the edge. Last thing to do was lean up the inside of the disc add a silhouet of someone playing disc gold and then milk in a bit more white to add balance.

  1. For your image, I would suggest maybe playing with different colors and background scenes that you have around the disk and image. Perhaps try flipping the abstracted greenery to inside the main circle, and having the simplistic illustration surrounding the outside so the two are flipped. the circles in circles is an interesting concept that you have going.

  2. As the viewer I am drawn to the silhouetted figure in the middle of the disk, I would suggest playing with the shape and maybe some filters for it. Distort the player so that it becomes more abstract and the viewer can put his/her own story into the image.

  3. I'm also drawn to the silhouetted figure, i think it would be interesting to see the figure have a similar texture as the surrounding area of the disk.

  4. I think your concept is good, and I get why it's centered, but the biggest thing for me right now is that the white is in such stark contrast to the rest of the piece that my eyes get stuck there and all the things you're doing in the green to try to convey movement get kind of lost. Maybe if you took the opacity of the white down some or you incorporated that white strategically throughout to encourage the viewers eyes to move throughout the piece that would make it even more successful.
I also wish there was a little bit more variation throughout the green, because I think the distortion you have to simulate the disk spinning gets lost because the greens all blend together so much. I really enjoy your illustration as well.

  6. This is starting to come together for you. the integration of the figure and hoop is working nicely. i think the throwing hand could use some work (just a tad blobby looking from the orginal reference). compare to other hand which works great. could u copy and paste the other hand and just use it? love the integration with the shadows. also the hoop just ends, i know it is supposed to go into the grass, but could it trail off at the bottom instead of just ending? the white is overkill right now, either could try to incorporate a tad of green or better yet, open up the grass areas with some blasts of light (levels?) value to further unite it with the disc and provide escape routes, just need a few more whites elsewhere. nice work.

  7. I think you need to do something different with some of the green areas. Like Kimi said, maybe incorporating some more white would help. I want to see more of a story around your disc. Right now it all blurs together. I think creating more interest in the outer areas would keep the center from being too distracting.
